Ridge Capping Repointing in Brisbane

The ridge capping runs along the peaks and hips of a tiled roof, held in place by bedding and pointing. When the pointing cracks, water gets in and ridge caps can work loose in strong winds.

We repoint ridge capping with flexible pointing that moves with the roof, and rebed any caps that have come loose, so the top of your roof stays watertight.

No Hidden Costs

The cost depends on how many metres of ridge and hip there are and how many caps need rebedding rather than just repointing. We measure it up and give you a free written quote.

Repointing on its own is a smaller job than a full restoration, and we will only recommend the bigger job if the rest of the roof needs it.

What to Expect

  1. 1

    Check the ridges

We look along every ridge and hip for cracked pointing, loose caps and gaps where water can get in.

  2. 2

    Remove the old pointing

Cracked and crumbling pointing is cleaned out, and loose caps are lifted.

  3. 3

    Rebed where needed

Loose ridge caps are set back down on fresh bedding, lined up straight along the ridge.

  4. 4

    Repoint

Flexible pointing goes on over the bedding, finished neatly, then left to cure.

Your Questions

Signs include cracked or missing pointing, caps that look out of line, bits of mortar in the gutters, and water stains on ceilings near the top of the house.

Rebedding means lifting the ridge caps and setting them on fresh bedding. Repointing is the flexible layer over the top that seals and holds them. Some roofs need both, some only need repointing.

Roofs move with heat and wind. Flexible pointing moves with them, where old rigid mortar cracks over time.

Yes. Flexible pointing comes in a range of colours, and it can be painted over as part of a restoration.
